2006 - Antiquorum 2006-11-12 $33,040, "Double-Dialed" B. Haas Jne & Cie, Genève - Paris, No. 014155. Made for the South American market, circa 1890. Fine and rare, 18K gold hunting-cased, double-dialed, astronomic pocket watch with moon phases, triple date calendar, called "independent perpetual calendar" by the maker. To be sold without reserve Three-body, massive, "bassine et filets", the spring-loaded front cover chased with foliage, the spring-loaded back decorated en suite and engraved inside: "Quantièmes Perpétuels Indépendants - Phases de Lune". White enamel on the front with radial Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, large inner moon phase aperture. Blued steel "spade" hands. White enamel on the rear dial with black Arabic chapter on the border for the dates, small black subsidiary inner chapter rings for days of the week and months. Notes Haas - B. Jeune & Cie. (1870-circa 1885). Paris, Genève, Besançon. Very high quality watchmaking, simple and complicated watches. Haas Neveux & Cie., in Geneva, is one of the oldest manufactures of Switzerland. The firm Haas Neveux & Cie. succeeded to the firm B. Haas Jne which was created in1848. Haas Neveux & Cie. created the extra-flat watch with winding mechanism, provoking a revolution in watchmaking. The firm sought to make their watches more elegant, by making them flatter. At the Geneva Exhibition of 1896, they exhibited the firt extra-flat watch, with a movement only two millimeters thick. • Dials: Front - white enamel, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring, sunken subsidiary seconds, large aperture for moon-phases, blued steel hands • Back - white enamel with black outer ring for date, two subsidiary dials with black enamel chapter rings for day and month in French, signed B. • Case: gold, the covers chased and engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage, centre of the front with vacant shield-shape cartouche, hand-set lever beneath front bezel, adjusters for day and date beneath calendar bezel, case back signed B. H. J. & Cie and numbered 014155, front numbered 055
diameter 53mm, Movement: running at time of cataloguing, calendar advancing correctly at midnight. All calendar adjusters appear to be functioning correctly.
Dials: front hairline running below the moon phases around the centre and down to the subsidiary seconds, further hairline to subsidiary seconds, feint line between 4 and 5 o'clock which may be another hairline. Calendar dial with scratch running downwards from the centre of the month dial,"
