Case: three piece, 18k yellow gold, band and bow with channel set French cut sapphires, 46 mm, plain polished back, front cover with a small glazed aperture for the dial disclosed by polished gold shutters that flip open and close by depressing a sapphire set button on the base of the band, case No. 69276
Dial: matte silver, black Arabic numerals, blued spade hands
Movement: 38 mm, rhodium plated, Geneve stripes decoration, 18 jewels, eight adjustments, lever escapement, bi-metallic compensated balance, Breguet hairspring, No. 69276
Signed: case with H.N.C. hallmark for Haas Neveux & Co., dial signed Ghiso
Note: This unique timepiece has an unusual design to protect the dial making the case a fully closed hunters style. By pressing the push button the shutters instantaneously open to reveal the dial. The idea was invented and patented by E. Jaeger in 1910 (French patent #412821) and used mostly in Cartier watches. Interestingly, there is one "guillotine" watch signed Cartier with an identical Haas Neveux movement. The example here was made for A. & R. Ghiso, important Buenos Aires jewelers who retailed watches by Cartier, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Haas Neveux.
